Case Histories
Burlington Air Express
Burlington Air Express is controlled by Pittston Burlington Group, a global
freight transportation and logistics management services company that
trades on the NYSE. Its global network includes nearly 500 stations in
more than 100 countries. The company's services include expedited freight,
customs clearance, ocean freight, and global logistics management. Burlington's
worldwide revenues totaled $1.5 billion in 1996.
With information services being a critical element of Burlington's core
business, the Company recently completed the largest technology roll-out
in its 25-year history in conjunction with a new shipment tracking system
called BAXTRAX. The BAXTRAX system utilizes client-server and bar-code
technology to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of package tracking.
The upgrade required new cabling and wiring of over 100 field locations
and the installation of 1,700 PCs, 120 servers, and hundreds of printers.
Burlington installed Printek FormsPro 4503 printers to handle its forms
printing needs.
Burlington conducted extensive testing of a variety of forms printers before selecting Printek. In their evaluation the reliability, print quality, automation of paper handling and ease of use of the FormsPro printers were rated superior to other models. Also, the waste-free demand document tear-off feature of the FormPro printers was important and is now saving Burlington significantly on forms costs.
